You do just that when you try to give a meaning to it.

Sentience occures when a neural-net reaches a certain level of complexity. There is much progress happening now in the area of AI.

How many times have great discoveries been made when something totally unexpected had happened? All our minds are are very complex neural-nets. I've even hear it called our metaprogram.
